Campaign for Cat Neutering in the Peterborough area
Cat neutering campaign set up in memory of Oscar the Lynchwood Cat
What is neutering?
Castration in the male (removal of the testes), and spaying the female (removal of the ovaries and uterus) – not only prevents unwanted pregnancies occurring, but also curbs unwanted behavioural patterns associated with sexual maturity and reduces the risk of certain diseases.
Unneutered male cats tend to roam and get into fights, their wounds can abscess and if left untreated can have painful and fatal results.
Unspayed female cats can become pregnant on a regular basis, having litter after litter of kittens from only a few months old themselves. Kittens are often not very healthy and the mothers can find it harder to feed and look after them if they’re not healthy themselves.
What’s the campaign about?
Oscar the Lynchwood Cat Neutering Campaign comes from a typical story of what can happen to some unneutered male cats.
In summer 2017 a black and white cat was seen in the Lynchwood business area of Peterborough. Lots of kind people working in the offices nearby were concerned for the cat’s wellbeing. They fed him and began to notice he was injured.
They asked for help and Peterborough Cat Rescue set a trap fro him, finally managing to catch him and bring him in for help on 9 September 2017. It turned out the cat was a very friendly boy, who wasn’t feral, he’d obviously been someone’s pet, who’d probably wandered too far and become lost. We named him Oscar.
We received lots of donations for help with Oscar’s care and treatment, sadly his wounds from fights were so badly infected, it was decided the best option was to put Oscar to sleep. He’d obviously been in pain for a very long time. You can see photographs and read about Oscar in the Facebook post linked below.
In memory of Oscar, we want to continue to raise funds for an ongoing neutering campaign, to raise awareness and help fund cat neutering in the Peterborough area.
Even the smallest amount can help, please donate even if it’s just a £1.
